Richard Gies is a famous name in Montana token lore and this is an unlisted, heretofore unknown Richard Gies token from Maiden Montana.

Richard Gies ran a Saloon in Maiden in the early 1890's before he moved to Great Falls. See his listing in the 1894 Montana R. L. Polk Gazetteer. A copy of that listing is provided below.

In the late 1890's Gies moved to Great Falls and set up his famous 16 to 1 Saloon at 120 Central Avenue.

Business Directory listings for Richard Gies Great Falls Saloon can be found in just about all Gazetteers of his day. See, for example, the 1900 Montana R. L. Polk.
