ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Smith-Buser Co. ran a General Store in Dawson, Nebraska from 1906 to 1915.
E. W. BUSER. The only confectionery and fancy grocery in town is owned by E. W. Buser, who is also, editor of the Newsboy. ("The Dawson Reporter Souvenir Edition" by J.R. Harrah. It was originally published in 1914.)
E. W. Buser as postmaster, merchant, and, later, founder and editor of the Newsboy,E. W. Buser was at that time engaged in business and was wide awake to the best interest and advancement of the thriving village. He purchased the necessary equipment with which to publish a newspaper and founded the Dawson Newsboy, which he conducted successfully and satisfactorily for a year, when he sold the plant to Arthur Gird who directed the destinies of the paper but a short time, when the plant, together with a number of other business houses, disappeared in smoke. Nothing whatever of the Dawson Newsboy plant was saved, and as little or no insurance was carried, and as Mr. Gird, unfortunately, had no reserve fund, he was unable to replace the outfit, consequently, for several months Dawson was without a newspaper when Mr. Buser purchased another newspaper outfit and re-established another paper and in a few months he again sold out to Henry Scheidegger, who conducted the same for a time.
